MTN Afghanistan Inaugurated and donated MTN IT Research Center to ICT Institute

MTN Afghanistan during the 21 Days of Y’ello Care annual campaign established an advance IT Research Center under the name of “MTN IT Research Center” at ICT institute at Kabul. This center is well equipped with the modern technology such as virtual and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, access points, point to point connectivity, windows license, LED screen, UPS, printers and all the required items for an advance research center as well as furnished the lab with tables and chairs.

The Inauguration was commemorated at a ceremony in presence of Acting Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Deputy Ministry of Youth Affairs, ATRA Board Members, Directors from Different Government entities, Directors of ICTI, MTN Afghanistan CEO & General Manager of Corporate Affairs, Government officials and local community elders.

Prof. Shafi Sharifi, the Director of ICTI extends its warm welcomes to all participants and deeply thanked them for their participation at the inauguration ceremony, he also expressed its gratefulness from MTN Afghanistan for its assistance of IT Research Center at ICT Institute, he said; this center is unique and symbolic for telecommunication services in Afghanistan, the mentioned donation initiated by MTN is core and special innovation taken place for our Institute, he also provided the participants with the brief info about the mentioned institute  and stated that we have students from different ethnic groups from different part of the country studying in this institute and the lecturers  are trying their best to provide high quality of education.

Mr. Abbad Rada the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Afghanistan stated that, it is my honor and privilege to be with you in a very significant event here in order to inaugurate MTN IT Research Center” at ICT institute for ICTI students, all students are the key assets of the country and especially ICT students are vital for telecom sector.

Our mission as a telecomm service provider is not only to provide telecom services in the country but we have always used our best efforts to take active part in the  reconstruction of Afghanistan in various sector including education, health, public awareness, sport, youth empowerment  program and others.

The Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Mr. Ajmal Shapoor on his term said that,  MTN supported Afghan youth by providing them free education scholarships, establishing computer labs and capacity building centers for them, supporting Internal Displaced (IDPs) and returnees and many other areas that we are thankful to their social activities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Acting Minister of Communication and Information Technology stated that, “We are grateful to MTN for supporting the only telecom institute in the country which provides professional studies in telecom sector.”

This center will play a vital and significant role in capacity building, research and practical skills of ICT students.

All such campaigns are conducted under the umbrella of MTN Afghanistan Foundation. Through it, MTN has several social and humanitarian activities in Education, health, national priorities and enterprise development sectors by supporting Afghan nation by providing education scholarships, Medication for poor and needy people, conducting blood donation campaigns, helping people and families suffered by natural disaster, renovation of Schools and Mosques, Distributing of food and non-food kits to returnees and internal displaced families and execution of other social and welfare project across the country.
